SWUYN Inaugurates National Planning Committee for 10th Anniversary and 2026 National Unemployed Youths Day

Abuja, Nigeria – July 8, 2025

In a bold move to deepen its impact and rally national attention to the plight of Nigeria’s unemployed youths, the Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youth of Nigeria (SWUYN) has formally inaugurated a Planning Committee for its 10th Anniversary and National Unemployed Youths Day, scheduled to hold on March 6, 2026.

The inauguration marks a significant milestone in the organization’s history, with the 2026 event set to reflect a decade of advocacy, empowerment, and strategic engagement for youth development across Nigeria.

A Strategic National Initiative

The event, themed “A Decade of Advocacy, Action & Empowerment,” will serve dual purposes: celebrating SWUYN’s ten-year journey and institutionalizing March 6 as National Unemployed Youths Day. This initiative is aimed at creating a national moment of reflection, action, and collaboration to combat youth unemployment.

According to a mandate issued by the National President of SWUYN, Comr. Preye V. Tambou, who also serves as Chairman of the Planning Committee, the event will spotlight structural unemployment, amplify youth voices, and foster partnerships across sectors to develop sustainable solutions for young Nigerians.

Inclusive and Diverse Planning Structure

The Planning Committee reflects the full organizational architecture of SWUYN—integrating leaders from the Board of Trustees (BoT), National Executive Council (NEC), Regional Executive Council (REC), and State Executive Council (SEC). The diverse composition ensures national representation and inclusion at every planning stage.

Statutory and technical members such as the National Legal Adviser, financial officers, female representatives, and alumni supporters are also included.

Mandate: A Decade of Responsibility and Action

The mandate issued for the planning committee outlines seven clear goals, including:

Commemorating SWUYN’s decade of grassroots engagement

Amplifying unemployed youths’ voices at national level

Engaging stakeholders from government, civil society, and private sector

Hosting empowerment clinics, policy forums, and award ceremonies

Presenting data-driven proposals and youth unemployment reports

Ensuring accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainability in every activity

Mobilizing youth and public support across all geopolitical zones

The planning committee has been empowered to mobilize resources, engage key institutions, and deliver a world-class national event that shifts narratives and creates impact beyond symbolism.

SWUYN is calling on government agencies, development partners, NGOs, the media, private sector players, and international organizations to collaborate on this important national occasion. According to the leadership, the event is not just a celebration—it’s a national mobilization for dignity, opportunity, and justice for Nigeria’s unemployed youth.

With preparations underway, the 2026 Anniversary and National Unemployed Youths Day is shaping up to be a transformative rallying point in Nigeria’s youth development landscape.
