I’ve received messages from some people close to me; especially friends; questioning why I engage in what they describe as “things meant for the unemployed.”

Let me make this clearer. This is not really about me. It is about the millions of Nigerian youths who wake up every day without access to meaningful employment. Graduates roam the streets with certificates but no opportunities. Youths who have skills are forced into menial jobs or endless hustles that barely put food on the table. While some are battling frustration, mental stress, and hopelessness; not because they are lazy or unqualified, but because the system has failed them.

What makes the situation more painful is the persistent neglect of young people; they are rarely carried along in the scheme of things. Government policies, empowerment programs, and economic plans are often designed without genuine youth inclusion. Several promises have been made, announcements are celebrated, but implementation is so weak, selective, or inaccessible to those who truly need them. As a result, many youths feel abandoned, unheard, and disconnected from governance.

This crisis goes beyond today. It affects the children yet unborn and the less-privileged children already on our streets; children who sleep hungry, lack quality education, and have no clear future to look forward to. When youth unemployment is ignored today, it becomes a generational tsunami tomorrow.

This is why the SWUYN anniversary is so important. It is not just a celebration; it is a deliberate attempt to bring all stakeholders, policymakers, leaders, and the youths into one room to have honest conversations and chart a practical way forward. It is an opportunity to bridge the gap between decision-makers and those living with the consequences of those decisions.

History will be made on that day; destinies will be transform by this event. Lives will change through dialogue, connections, policies, and renewed commitment to youth development.

I therefore call on everyone; leaders, institutions, organizations, and individuals; to give this event their utmost support. Why we speak up, and seek solutions is not because we are desperate; it is responsibility. Until our youths are prioritized, Nigeria’s progress will remain incomplete.
