SWUYN Strongly Condemns Genocide in Benue State: Mourning the Dead, Demanding Justice, and Calling for Federal Intervention
The Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN), under the leadership of our National President, Comr. Preye V. Tambou strongly condemns the ongoing genocide in Benue State, Northern Nigeria, where over 200 innocent citizens have been gruesomely murdered and many more rendered homeless, displaced, and unemployed.
This massacre is an unforgivable crime against humanity and a deep wound to the soul of our nation. The deliberate targeting of indigenous communities not only strips families of their loved ones but also annihilates the means of livelihood of countless young people—further deepening the crisis of unemployment, poverty, and insecurity in the region.
SWUYN extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and all those who have suffered unspeakable loss and trauma. We stand in solidarity with the displaced, the unemployed, and every affected youth in Benue whose life has been shattered by these heinous acts.
We unequivocally accuse the Nigerian security forces of gross negligence and systemic failure in their duty to protect lives and property. The scale and frequency of these killings point to more than just operational lapses—they reveal an urgent need for accountability, reform, and action.
We therefore call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to:
1. Launch a transparent, independent investigation into the killings.
2. Bring the perpetrators and their sponsors to swift justice.
3. Deploy adequate security to protect vulnerable communities in Benue State.
4. Establish a special intervention and employment recovery programme for displaced and affected youths.
The time to act is now. The blood of innocent Nigerians cries out for justice, and the youths of this nation demand a future free from fear, violence, and hopelessness.
Signed:
