His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja
Your Excellency,
STOP FUNDING GOVERNORS WHO FAIL TO DELIVER – INVEST IN THE PEOPLE, UNEMPLOYED AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES DIRECTLY
With deep respect, and a strong sense of national duty, on behalf of millions of unemployed youths and underdeveloped local communities across Nigeria, I write to you as the National President of the Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN), an organisation representing the concerns, voices, and yearnings of Nigeria’s neglected but determined youth population: makes this urgent, sincere appeal:
Stop giving funds, dues, subsidies, or recovered loots to State Governors, instead, channel these resources directly into youth-targeted investments, local enterprise development, and mass empowerment platforms.
Stop handing these lifelines to individuals who are out of touch with the people. Redirect those resources directly into impactful ventures that will engage our teeming unemployed youths. Reach out to the people yourself through federal platforms, partnerships with credible grassroots organisations, NGOs, and youth-led initiatives. Don’t just fund projects, fund people.
It is important to bring to your attention, once again, the growing tension, agitations, and discontent across the nation, a large part of which is rooted in the painful reality of widespread unemployment and economic exclusion. These agitations are not just spontaneous expressions of anger; they are reactions to decades of systemic neglect, worsened by the current misuse of opportunities and resources meant for the masses.
Your administration has consistently made efforts to release funds, subsidies, palliatives, and recovered loots to State Governments with the hope that such gestures would ease the burden of the poor and uplift the unemployed. However, it has become clear that many of these State Governors are not deploying the resources to improve the lives of the unemployed youths and to strengthen local economies instead, they are channelling these funds into irrelevant projects, lavish propaganda, and personal enrichment schemes that do nothing to ease suffering or grow prosperity among the common people.
We therefore strongly advise that Your Excellency halts the ongoing pattern of routing resources through Governors who have repeatedly failed to impact the lives of the ordinary citizens, rather, let the Federal Government invest directly in businesses, scalable enterprises and innovative platforms that can create sustainable jobs in agriculture, technology, manufacturing, energy, and services for young Nigerians and improve local livelihoods.
If you are serious about lifting Nigerians out of poverty, start with the unemployed youth. The time has come to build direct bridges between your government and the people. Give the youth a voice and a stake in this renewed hope agenda. Build infrastructure that directly improves livelihoods in local communities.
Appoint competent young people into meaningful leadership roles. Empower local youths, appoint more young people who are truly connected to the grassroots, and open up spaces for those who carry the realities of the communities on their shoulders. These are the ones who can restore faith in your government and secure the trust of the masses. These are individuals who understand the reality of local communities, who speak the language of the people, and who carry the voice and vision of the youth. Giving them a seat at the table is not just inclusion, it is strategy. It is how you rebuild trust and secure authentic support from the base.
This is not just about economic empowerment but a matter of national stability. The future of Nigeria lies in the empowerment of its youth, not in the enrichment of corrupt political elites. This is the time to cut off the middlemen and deal directly with the people. The Governors have proven they cannot be trusted to prioritise development over personal and political interests.
If the current approach continues, the anger and disconnect from the grassroots will only deepen, and your administration may continue to suffer growing unpopularity at the community level, not because of your intentions, but because of the failures of those entrusted with executing them.
Hear the cry of the unemployed, feel the pulse of the communities, and act decisively to put power, platforms, and resources directly in the hands of the people.
Let the resources go where they are needed most – the unemployed, hustlers, local builders, and dreamers who have been left behind for far too long. Nigeria cannot be rebuilt from the top down. It must be rebuilt from the grassroots up.
History will not forget a leader who bypassed failed structures to lift his people with his own hands.
